Our story

We started Unrefined Foods because we couldn't find food we trusted to feed our own family. And we know we're not alone.

As parents of young kids, mornings were already a lot. The thing keeping us sane? Frozen muffins made from wheat we milled ourselves (a pandemic habit we couldn't quit) ready to throw in a lunchbox or heat up on the way out the door.

The problem was, we'd looked at what the grocery store had to offer and . On one side: ultra-processed, sugar-loaded packaged food that made us feel like bad parents every time we "needed" them to feed our kids. On the other hand: a "wholesome homemade" ideal that required a hours of prep we didn't have. The food industry had decided that convenience and real ingredients were mutually exclusive, and just expected parents to accept that.

We weren't happy and in conversations with thousands of you, we realized we weren't alone!

Unrefined Foods makes frozen muffins with 100% stone-milled organic whole grains, real fruits and vegetables, olive oil, flaxseed, and a touch of maple syrup. Our standard is to use only the ingredients you'd reach for yourself in your kitchen, because we built our recipes in ours.

And, we go a step further: sourcing whole grains directly from regenerative, organic farmers and stone-milling them fresh for complex flavor and nutrition you can't find anywhere else. Stone-milling is the only way to preserve the nutrition and flavor of the entire grain; it's what "whole grain" was always supposed to mean before industrial processing got in the way. 

We're a family-run business in Massachusetts with big ambitions: shifting how the world grows, processes, and eats wheat, one muffin at a time, using regenerative farming, real ingredients, and by meeting busy families where they are.
